The Pickle Breakers Team

Geneva Olson

Raised in Quincy, California and attended Quincy Jr/Sr High School until 2003. I played basketball, volleyball, and tennis all four years and have continued to play recreationally ever since. Following high school I attended University of Nevada, Las Vegas where I met my husband whom also shared a love of sports. Following graduation we moved to South Dakota to raise our family and now have four beautiful daughters.

We found pickleball a year and a half ago and fell in love with the game and the community. I started working part time at South Dakota’s first dedicated indoor pickleball facility, Remedy Pickleball Pub, in March 2024 and now work there full time helping manage the facility. I love being able to support and encourage growth and enjoyment in the sport. My favorite night every month is “Newbie Night” where my coworker and I introduce new people to the sport, teach them the basics of the game, and show them why pickleball is so unique and fun. The best thing about pickleball is that it’s a multi-generational sport. It’s really the only sport I can think of where 20 year olds can compete with 70 year olds and you don’t know who’s going to win. You can’t underestimate anyone that steps on the court. Because of that my social circle has blossomed with depth and spans age, gender, race, and social status. I’ve met some of the most caring and genuine people through pickleball and wouldn’t trade their friendships for anything.

I’m choosing to pursue this World Record attempt for a couple reasons. The first being I want to show my daughters that they can do anything they put their mind to, there is no ceiling on what they can accomplish, and that courage is knowing something is going to be incredibly difficult and choosing to pursue it anyway.

Secondly, I was inspired by CK’s desire to raise awareness for mental health issues and to bring light to a topic most people don’t know how to address. My only sibling took his own life in high school and that is a heartbreak that never goes away. I want to send a message to anyone out there that is struggling feeling lost and alone that there is hope. There are people in this world that won’t judge you for your mistakes, that are willing to walk with you through your pain, and even if everything feels bleak right now with time, courage, and support the life you want is within reach.
