I stood at the base of the massive tree in awe. Scaffolding circled the tree’s limbs from trunk to top while workers diligently decorated the annual tribute to the holiday season. Hundreds of people gathered in amazement around the construction zone, taking pictures of the famous Rockefeller Christmas Tree.

The star was on a crane, waiting to be lifted nearly a hundred feet to adorn the top of this massive decoration. No matter what your holiday traditions, seeing the Rockefeller Christmas Tree in person just makes you feel good inside. The nearness of the holidays combined with the brisk air only added to the excitement of the upcoming season, bringing me right back to being a kid again.

Tara and I had the pleasure of being invited to New York City for a beautiful celebration of our Legacy Gift program with Saks Fifth Avenue. The famous Madison Avenue retailer had chosen Taylor’s Gift to be the charity beneficiary for their women’s “Winter Style Show.” Combined with the opportunity to arrange a few business meetings for the foundation, we couldn’t turn down the trip.

We are honored to have had the opportunity to work with Saks Fifth Avenue. Visiting New York to raise funds specifically for our  Legacy Gift program that helps assist donor families in the New York area, while bringing much needed attention to the needs surrounding organ donation, was a wonderful opportunity for Taylor’s Gift.

Taylor Blue Gets People Talking

On November 14th at 6:00pm, an entire third floor was sectioned off for a private event where attendees were welcomed with hor d’oeuvres, refreshments, cupcakes topped with Taylor Blue frosting – from Georgetown Cupcake in Soho – and Taylor’s Gift signature “Outlive Yourself” bracelets.

While friends gathered and shopped through the beautiful women’s “SFA Collection,” Tara and myself met, mingled, and thanked the guests for coming. We gave a short presentation where we shared the need for organ donor registrations and highlighted the help being provided by our  Legacy Gift program through our partnership with New York Organ Donor Network.

Outlive Yourself: Giving a Gift That Costs $0

During the holiday season, many of us look for ways to take a step back from the buying frenzy and celebrate family and traditions. I’d like to ask you to make a new tradition of asking your friends and family what “Outlive Yourself” means to them. You will be amazed at the ways people want to leave the world a better place than they found it.

One simple way is to register to become an organ donor. It won’t cost you any money, and the 90 seconds it takes to register could become a gift of life to someone else.

A special thank you to James Palazza, Carrie Turner and the team at Saks Fifth Avenue New York. Your love, support and generous efforts with this event have made an immeasurable impact. After all the holiday decorations are removed and the Rockefeller Christmas Tree comes down, the joy you brought to so many – especially those touched by our Legacy Gift program – is priceless.

Please take 90 seconds and register to become an organ donor at
